Bengaluru's Namma Metro Blues: Launch For Green Line & Yellow Line Delayed By Lok Sabha Polls?

In the vibrant city of Bengaluru, the expansion of the Namma Metro network continues to be a topic of keen interest for residents and commuters alike. One of the eagerly anticipated developments is the launch of the Green Line extension from Nagasandra to Madavara and the introduction of the Yellow Line. However, recent reports on the tentative date for the Lok Sabha polls 2024 have added a layer of uncertainty to the project's timeline.

Namma Metro Green Line Update

The Namma Metro Green Line extension, stretching from Nagasandra to Madavara, previously recognized as the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) line, is scheduled for July 2024. This elevated route, spanning from Nagasandra to Madavara, will incorporate three stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara.

The majority of the tasks have been successfully completed, and the upcoming phase involves the trial runs of trains and inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, along with finalizing other minor tasks related to stations.

The construction of the northern extension of the fully elevated Green Line, stretching three kilometers from Nagasandra, began in 2017. Originally slated for completion by mid-2019, delays in land acquisition impeded progress, causing the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) to miss the set deadlines.

In January 2021, BMRCL inaugurated the southern extension of the Green Line, extending from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute on Kanakapura Road. With the operationalization of the extended stretch to BIEC, the Green Line's total length will extend to 33 km, providing substantial benefits to the multitude of commuters relying on the Green Line.

Namma Metro Yellow Line:

Meanwhile, driverless Namma Metro Yellow Line, representing another phase of Namma Metro's growth, have been stung by yet another delay. Despite the line being nearly complete, glitches in coach delivery have pushed the launch back from February to July.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had initially planned to commence commercial operations on the Green Line extension and launch the Yellow Line in July. However, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the BMRCL faces logistical challenges and constraints that might affect the originally proposed timeline.

With the electoral process demanding the attention and resources of various authorities and agencies, the BMRCL is likely to experience delays in obtaining necessary clearances, approvals, and coordination required for a smooth launch of the metro lines.
