Bengaluru's IOC Junction Traffic Nightmares To End Soon: Elevated Rotary Flyover On The Cards
Bengaluru's notorious IOC Junction, infamous for its heavy traffic and congestion, is finally set to receive much-needed relief with the construction of an elevated rotary flyover near Mukunda Theatre. This infrastructure development aims to ease traffic congestion around Sir MV Terminal in Byappanahalli. The BBMP has issued a tender for the construction of the flyover, along with an additional two-lane railway overbridge (RoB) at Byappanhalli railway level crossing in the city.
Despite the establishment of Sir MV Terminal with airport-like facilities, the railway station continues to face challenges due to a narrow approach road and persistent heavy traffic. In response, the BBMP has proposed an elevated rotary flyover project with a budget allocation of Rs 380 crores.

The project includes a 4.5 km long elevated rotary flyover, extending from Maruthi Sevanagar near ITC Limited to Banaswadi Main Road. However, specific details regarding the opening date and exact routes of the flyover are yet to be finalised as the project is currently in its preliminary stages.
Key features of the Bengaluru Elevated Rotary Flyover include a circular junction with four exits leading towards Kammanahalli, Old Madras Road, Banaswadi, and Sir MV Terminal. The circular junction will feature four lanes, each 3.5 meters wide, and 7.5-meter-wide approach ramps. Vehicles will be restricted to speeds below 30 km/h on the flyover, and in case of missing an exit, they will need to complete a full circle to access the exit ramp.
Located near Mukunda Theatre, the circular junction of the rotary flyover is expected to have a diameter of 95 meters, aiming to streamline traffic flow and enhance connectivity in the area once completed.
