Bengaluru's Double-Decker Flyover On Namma Metro Lines Thrown Open To Public From Today

After several delays, Bengaluru's first double-decker flyover is finally opened for a public trial run on Wednesday. The 3.3 km road flyover, spanning from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) along the Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra), links South Bengaluru and the IT hubs of Whitefield and Electronics City.

Bengaluru s Double-Decker Flyover On Namma Metro Lines Thrown Open To Public From Today

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar officially inaugurated the flyover, accompanied by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and other officials. This development is expected to significantly ease traffic around the Silk Board junction, especially during peak hours.

This road and metro flyover features five different ramps. Construction on three ramps has been completed, while two are still underway. This marks the first double-decker flyover of its kind in South India.

The flyover features two levels, with the lower deck being 8 meters above ground and designed for vehicular traffic, while the upper deck is 16 meters above ground and will be used for the metro line.

This Double-Decker Flyover aims to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours by providing direct access to Electronics City, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout. It will also save 30-40 minutes for commuters traveling to Hosur Road, BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Ragigudda from any direction in the city by bypassing the Silk Board junction.

Initially, only one side of the flyover will be open for vehicular traffic from Ragigudda to CSB, but this is expected to change once authorities conduct a final inspection, likely by June 15. The construction of five loops and ramps at the CSB junction is underway, with the A, B, and C ramps expected to be completed and operational by June, and the D and E ramps slated for completion by June 2025.

According to BMRCL's Chief Public Relations Officer, B L Yashwanth Chavan, the A, B, and C ramps are expected to be completed and operational by June, while the D and E ramps will be finished by June 2025.

This signal-free corridor will enable vehicles from Ragiguda to cross CSB without a stoplight and continue on to HSR Layout and Hosur Road. Initially, both stations were planned to be integrated, but due to the 355-meter distance between them, BMRCL proposes a travelator for easy access, ensuring seamless connectivity for commuters.

The project was initially slated for completion in October 2021 but was delayed due to various reasons.
