Bengaluru's Silk Board Junction Traffic Jam Continues Unabated Despite Double-Decker Flyover
The newly inaugurated double-decker rail-cum-road flyover in Bengaluru, which was opened recently, failed to alleviate traffic congestion at the Silk Board Junction today. Despite the flyover's promise to ease traffic around this notoriously busy junction, a traffic jam was observed today, particularly from BTM Layout towards Silk Board.
Video footage capturing the gridlock at Silk Board has gone viral, highlighting the ongoing traffic issues despite the new infrastructure. The footage shows a stark contrast between the largely empty lanes of the flyover and the heavy congestion on the roads below. This disparity raises questions about the flyover's immediate utility and the factors influencing its usage.

The 3.3 km double-decker flyover, which spans from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) along the Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra), connects South Bengaluru to the IT hubs of Whitefield and Electronics City. It was designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly during peak hours. However, the initial underwhelming response and the persistent traffic jams suggest that the flyover has not yet met its objectives.
The Rs 449 crore investment in the double-decker flyover was intended to transform Bengaluru's traffic landscape. Despite the grand opening and the revealing photos and videos, the viral video of the ongoing traffic jam at Silk Board underscores the need for further evaluation of the flyover's effectiveness.
The persistence of traffic congestion at Silk Board despite the new flyover raises questions about its future utility and whether it was worth the massive investment.
Officials from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) have yet to comment on the observations.
For now, Bengaluru commuters are left wondering if the double-decker flyover is just another example of a well-intentioned project that has failed to deliver on its promises.
