Bengaluru: Woman Fined ₹500 For Eating Inside Namma Metro

A female passenger has been fined ₹500 after footage of her eating inside the Bengaluru Metro circulated on social media.

The commuter, who had boarded the metro to travel from Madavara station to Magadi Road on Saturday, was filmed eating by a fellow passenger.

A video shared online showed the woman seated on a bench inside the metro, eating from what appeared to be a tiffin box.

Upon noting the breach of metro regulations, security staff apprehended and fined the woman at Madavara station earlier today.

"She violated metro rules by consuming food while travelling on the metro on 26 April 2025, a breach that was captured on camera by a fellow passenger and uploaded onto social media," an official stated.

Eating and drinking are prohibited within metro premises in order to maintain cleanliness and prevent littering.

Bengaluru Metro has emphasised that it encourages all passengers to comply with these regulations and contribute to the upkeep of the metro system's cleanliness.

The metro is a shared environment, and passengers must respect the rules to ensure a comfortable and safe journey for all commuters, the official added.

Tobacco products banned too

The ban on tobacco and gutka products is part of a broader enforcement drive by BMRCL across its network.

Recently, the corporation also prohibited the carrying and consumption of gutka and other tobacco items within metro stations.

This initiative aims to maintain cleanliness and improve commuter discipline across the city's rapidly growing metro system.

A video recently went viral showing a commuter being confronted for chewing gutka inside a metro train.

BMRCL has appealed to passengers to comply with all regulations, emphasising that Bengaluru Metro is a shared public space and that maintaining its cleanliness is a collective responsibility.

Officials highlighted that consistent rule-following will help ensure a safer and more comfortable travel experience for all commuters
