Bengaluru Water Crisis Spurs Calls For Government-Mandated Work-From-Home Policies

The residents of Bengaluru continue to be troubled by the ongoing water crisis as minimal water usage is having an impact on day-to-day life.

Rules have already been imposed by many Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and people have been asked to reduce water usage, citing a lack of supply, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Bengaluru Water Crisis

Why work from home?

Calls for work from home are being made by social media users, aiming for employees to return to their native places. Authorities are also being urged to mandate it, at least until the water problem in the city is resolved. A user named Naveen Kopparam took it to X, formerly known as Twitter, where he wrote, "IT organizations based in Bengaluru should be instructed to announce 90 days of work from home amid the ongoing water crisis."

According to the renowned social media weather blogger, known as the 'Bengaluru Weatherman,' there are no forecasts of rain for the next month. He emphasized the prevailing sizzling hot weather and severe water crisis in Bengaluru city. In a post, he suggested that the Government of Karnataka must contemplate the Work-from-home option until the onset of the monsoon.

The IT companies were urged by the HSR Layout Residents' social media accounts to step up and implement the remote working option for the convenience of their employees. A post stated, "IT companies need to come forward and allow employees to work from home, wherever possible. The water situation in Bengaluru is deteriorating, and there's little we can do."

However, doubt was expressed by a few users regarding the proposed action, suggesting it is improbable due to its potential impact on the thriving real estate market in the city.

A user named Preetam Rao remarked, "Companies should declare work from home for 3/6 months so that several people leave the city. This will also help in crashing the real estate market in the city! Which is exactly why it won't happen & PPL will continue suffering!"
