Bengaluru Water Crisis: Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shiv Kumar Makes Big Announcement

Bengaluru Water Crisis: Taking cognizance of the ongoing water crisis throughout the state, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shiv Kumar on Tuesday announced some strict actions. To manage the water crisis, the state government has decided to take over private water tankers, borewells, and irrigation wells to ensure the distribution of water equally to everyone in the drought-hit parts of Karnataka.

Speaking to the media, DK Shiv Kumar said, "To streamline this water crisis, I am just trying to take over. We will see that there will be an equal share of everything and ensure they will not exploit the situation."

According to the reports, the state government is also planning to introduce special subsidised prices for water tankers.

The reports added that increase in demand for water tankers has increased the tension for the authorities. However, the state government is committed to provide water to every household as it is an essential thing for survival.

Notably, a 5,000-litre water tanker, which costs around Rs 500 usually, is now being sold for more than Rs 2000. Reports said more than 4000 private water tankers are operating in the city currently, which will now be used by the government to provide water to every corner of the state.

One of the main reasons behind the shortage of water in the state is drying of around 7,000 water borewells out of 14,000 borewells.

Talking to a reporter, a resident of Bengaluru said, "We pay three times the price for one load of water through tankers. When we pay ₹ 2,000, they arrive soon. When we negotiate to ₹ 1,500, we need to wait 3-4 days. The problem is only worsening."
