Bengaluru-Tumkur Namma Metro Project Nears Reality: 56.6 km Line Could Soon Get Approval

The long-awaited Bengaluru-Tumkur Namma Metro project is inching closer to reality. New updates have emerged confirming progress on the metro route connecting the two cities. The feasibility study report for the 56.6 km metro line has been completed and submitted to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which in turn has forwarded it to the state government.

Plans include the construction of 25 elevated stations along the route. The metro line will start from Madavara (BIEC) station on Bengaluru's Green Line and extend all the way to Shira Gate in Tumkur, according to reports. Yashwant Chauhan, Chief Public Relations Officer of BMRCL, confirmed that the feasibility study report has been handed over to the government for further action.

If approved, this will mark the first time metro services will connect Bengaluru with another district, making metro travel from Bengaluru to Tumkur a near certainty.

Metro Route Details

The proposed Bengaluru-Tumkur metro line will pass through the following stations: Madavara, Makali, Dasanapura, Nelamangala, Weaver Colony, Nelamangala Vishweshwarapura, Nelamangala Tollgate, Boodihal, T. Begur, Thippagondanahalli, Kulavanahalli, Mahimapur, Billankote, Sompura Industrial Area, Dabaspet, Nallayanapalya, Chikkahalli, Hirehalli Industrial Area, Panditanahalli, Katsandra Bypass, Katsandra, SIT, Tumkur Bus Stand, Tooda Layout, Naganna Palya, and will culminate at Shira Gate. This route is expected to greatly benefit commuters along Tumkur Road.

Next Steps

With the feasibility report now submitted, the state government is expected to give its approval soon. Following this, the project will require the final nod from the central government before construction can commence. The Bengaluru-Tumkur metro is poised to transform connectivity and ease travel between these important urban centers.
