Bengaluru Traffic Update Ragigudda To Silk Board Flyover Stretch to Open Soon

The Ragigudda-Silk Board Junction double-decker flyover, touted as South India's first, is set to become fully operational by mid-2025, providing much-needed relief to Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has already opened one section of the flyover-from Ragigudda to Silk Board Junction-for vehicular traffic in July 2024. However, the stretch from Silk Board Junction to Ragigudda is yet to be operational. BMRCL officials have indicated that this section is likely to open by the end of June or in July 2025.

Metro and Traffic Flow

The double-decker flyover has been constructed as part of the Namma Metro Yellow Line project, which connects R.V. Road to Bommasandra over a 19-km stretch.

  • The first level of the flyover is designated for vehicular traffic.
  • The second level will accommodate Namma Metro trains once operations begin.

Though the flyover has already started easing traffic flow, metro services on the elevated structure have not yet commenced. Authorities believe that once the Yellow Line is operational, it will significantly reduce congestion, as more commuters will switch from private vehicles to public transport.

While the Silk Board Junction bottleneck is expected to ease with the flyover's full opening, traffic police have raised concerns about new congestion points emerging near Marenahalli, Kanakapura Road, and Jayadeva Hospital.

According to officials, if both sides of the flyover open for vehicles, congestion at Silk Board Junction will reduce. However, traffic density near Ragigudda Metro Station, Banashankari, and Kanakapura Road may increase as vehicle movement redistributes.

Despite these concerns, traffic planners remain optimistic that once the R.V. Road-Bommasandra Namma Metro corridor becomes operational, the reliance on private vehicles will decline, further easing congestion in Bengaluru's busiest traffic zones.

Commuters and motorists are now eagerly awaiting the full functionality of this double-decker flyover, which promises a smoother and faster commute in the city.
