Bengaluru Traffic Jam Returns Near Nelamangala, Dasarahalli And Jalahalli Cross Due to Peenya Flyover Closure

The closure of the Peenya Flyover in Bengaluru has resulted in traffic congestion on one of the busiest roads on Wednesday morming. The flyover, shut down for load testing by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), has been inaccessible to traffic since Tuesday at 11 pm and will continue to remain closed until 11 am on January 19.

Linking 18 districts to Bengaluru City, the Peenya Flyover's closure for all types of vehicles has inconvenienced commuters, causing traffic jams in areas such as Nelamangala, Dasarahalli, Jalahalli Cross, and others. The closure even affected an ambulance, delaying its movement for more than 10 minutes until traffic police facilitated its passage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Siri Gowri was present at the location, overseeing the traffic situation. Speaking to reporters, she said, "The load capacity testing is underway. There is slow-moving traffic in Peenya and Jalahalli junction. We request commuters to avoid these roads. We have deployed maximum staff to manage the traffic. Along with staff from Malleswaram, Yeshwantpur, and Peenya police stations, we have deployed 30 more police personnel to manage traffic."

The NHAI had informed the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) on January 9 about the closure for three days to conduct various tests. Having invested Rs 38.5 crore in repair works, including retrofitting measures, the NHAI is now evaluating the quality of the work through these tests. The decision to allow heavy vehicles on the flyover will be made following load retention checks.

According to NHAI officials, the flyover, closed on January 16 at 11 pm, is expected to reopen after 11 am on January 19, once all the tests are successfully completed.
