Bengaluru Traffic Jam: ORR Faces Gridlock, Mahadevapura to Marathahalli Route Hit by Heavy Delays
Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR), a crucial route marked by numerous tech parks, is once again grappling with significant traffic congestion due to ongoing infrastructure and civic developments. Commuters are facing considerable delays, particularly during rush hours, prompting authorities to advise avoiding the area to escape the gridlock.
Frustrated citizens have taken to social media to voice their frustrations. One user on X commented, "Bumper-to-bumper traffic on ORR from KR Puram railway station towards Marathahalli! If you haven't hit the road yet, it's better to stay clear. If you're already stuck, just sit tight and enjoy the ride."

Another user shared their experience of being stuck for over 90 minutes while traveling from Marathahalli, questioning, "What's causing all this traffic on the Outer Ring Road from Marathahalli to Tin Factory?! @blrcitytraffic @east_bengaluru Any ideas? I've been here for almost an hour and a half. Let's not blame migrants for this."
On Tuesday, Bengaluru Police issued a traffic advisory, alerting residents to the ongoing traffic issues on ORR. "Due to metro construction at the Outer Ring Road Salem Railway Bridge, traffic will be slow from Mahadevapura to Marathahalli and vice versa. We ask for your cooperation and advise planning your travels accordingly. Thank you," the police announced.
What's Behind the Traffic Jams?
The primary cause of the congestion can be traced back to a bridge installation project near Doddanekkundi, close to Rainbow Hospital. Authorities had previously cautioned that traffic would be disrupted on January 27 and 28 due to the installation of a 65-meter composite girder across the Salem Railway Bridge.
This operation, scheduled between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM on both days, falls under the purview of HAL Airport and Mahadevapura Traffic Police. To facilitate the work, one side of the ORR towards KR Puram will be blocked, and the opposite lane will be temporarily transformed into a two-way route during construction hours.
Travelers are encouraged to take alternative routes. Instead of proceeding via the KR Puram railway station, they can turn left near Marathahalli Bridge, follow HAL Airport Road, turn right at Suranjandas Road Junction, continue to NGEF Junction, take another right, and head towards Tin Factory and Hebbal.
Authorities have urged commuters to plan their routes in advance and work with traffic management to help alleviate the situation.
