Bengaluru Traffic Gridlock: Post-Dasara Holiday Jam Hits City Hard as Rains Pour Down
As the Dasara weekend concluded, Bengaluru experienced a significant surge in vehicle traffic, leading to severe congestion on Monday morning. Major bottlenecks across the tech capital were heavily congested, prompting traffic police to work diligently to alleviate the gridlock.
The influx of vehicles began on Sunday evening, as many residents returned to the city after their vacations. Key entry points, including Tumakuru Road, Mysuru Road, Electronic City, Old Madras Road, and the Hyderabad Highway, were particularly affected. Long wait times at toll booths were reported as a steady stream of vehicles entered from various state borders.

Social media users shared alarming visuals of the extensive traffic jams on the Bengaluru-Pune highway. One user, Nanjesh Patel, remarked, "Good luck to Bengalureans returning from Uttara Karnataka/Pune via the B'luru road. This is just from one block. There are reportedly at least three other blocks. The jam extends for at least three kilometers with no movement. This is near Tumakuru."
In addition to the traffic from Sunday evening, the familiar morning rush returned. The notorious Outer Ring Road faced heavy congestion during peak hours, attributed to ongoing metro construction and rainy weather. Bengaluru traffic police issued a statement, saying, "Due to ongoing BMRCL work on ORR, traffic movement is very slow. We request all commuters to please cooperate with us. Thank you."
The Whitefield area was also gridlocked this morning as IT employees navigated their commutes in heavy rain. Significant delays were noted between Seegahalli and Satya Sai Hospital.
Hebbal also experienced severe traffic jams, as it serves as a crucial bottleneck for both commuters and visitors to Bengaluru.
