Bengaluru: Terminal 1 Revamp At Kempegowda Airport Streamlines Domestic Travel Experience
Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru's operator has successfully concluded a terminal transformation project, which involved repurposing the former international section within Terminal 1.
On Wednesday, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) announced that the previous international area in T1 has been revamped to create a "dedicated and spacious" zone exclusively for domestic operations. International operations were relocated to Terminal 2 back in September.

BIAL has expanded the amenities in this exclusively domestic terminal by introducing nine additional contact stands, supplementing the existing eight stands dedicated to domestic operations. A new Pre-Embarkation Security Check area now features Automated Tray Retrieval Systems, streamlining passenger flow into the Security Hold Area (SHA) and onward to the new boarding gates, as stated in an official BIAL statement.
The airport operator has also increased the number of baggage claim belts for domestic arrival flights, adding three more to bring the total to 10. As part of the expansion, there are now enhanced retail and dining options available to domestic passengers. The revamped domestic area provides access to the 080 Lounge and spa facilities. Furthermore, BIAL has made buggies more readily accessible to passengers with special needs within the SHA.
