Bengaluru Street Vendors to Receive BBMP ID Cards for Legal Recognition

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to issue identity cards to street vendors in the city to regulate and support their businesses. BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath has directed officials to distribute these identity cards to the street vendors identified through the recent survey as soon as possible.

During a meeting with officials on Monday (March 3), which covered multiple civic issues such as property tax collection, welfare programs, and a survey of out-of-school children, Giri Nath revealed that approximately 27,000 street vendors have been identified across the corporation's eight zones. He emphasized the need for the swift issuance of identity cards to all of them.

The Chief Commissioner also stressed the importance of clarifying the format of the identity cards and ensuring that street vendors are permitted to operate within the designated business zones only after receiving their identity cards.

Additionally, he directed officials to conduct an efficient survey of out-of-school children within BBMP's jurisdiction and ensure their swift identification for necessary action.

The move is expected to provide better organisation, legal recognition, and support to street vendors while maintaining order in public spaces.
