Bengaluru Stampede Blame Lands on RCB, Karnataka Govt Mentions Kohli’s Video Message Before Victory Parade
The Karnataka government has reportedly blamed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during their victory celebrations. The incident, which occurred on June 4, resulted in the deaths of 11 fans and injuries to several others. The government submitted a report to the high court highlighting lapses by RCB and event organisers.
The report criticises DNA Entertainment Networks Private Limited, the event organiser, for merely informing the police about the planned parade on June 3 without seeking formal permission. This step was necessary as per a 2009 city order. Despite being denied permission, RCB continued promoting the event through social media and a video by Virat Kohli, inviting fans to attend.

Event Mismanagement and Consequences
On the day of the event, confusion arose when organisers announced at 3:14 PM that passes were required for entry into the stadium. This last-minute change from an open admission policy caused panic among fans gathered on city streets. The report also points out poor planning at entry gates and delays in opening them as contributing factors to the stampede.
The lack of coordination between RCB, DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) is also highlighted in the report. Seven police personnel sustained injuries during the chaos. Eventually, authorities allowed a scaled-down version of the event to proceed.
Government's Response and Measures
In response to this tragic incident, various measures have been implemented by the state government. These include magisterial and judicial inquiries, registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), disciplinary actions against police personnel involved, suspension of the Chief Minister's political secretary, and transfer of the state intelligence chief.
Compensation has been announced for those affected by this unfortunate event. The government's report underscores how a video appeal by Virat Kohli led to an overwhelming turnout, ultimately resulting in chaos and tragedy outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
