Bengaluru Scooter Harassment Case: Three Men Arrested After Viral Video Near Silk Board

Three youths, including a minor, were arrested by Bengaluru City Police after a woman riding a gearless scooter was allegedly stalked and harassed near Silk Board Junction on the night of December 24. Police action followed after a commuter shared a video of the incident on social media platform X, tagging the city police.

The video showed three youths riding on a single gearless scooter repeatedly coming dangerously close to the woman, who was travelling alone. According to police, the trio followed her for over a kilometre, overtaking her multiple times, slowing down in front of her vehicle and making obscene gestures.

"They followed her for more than a kilometre, teasing and harassing her continuously. The video clearly captures their behaviour," a police officer said, describing the footage that later went viral.

The clip was recorded by Abhinav Vasudevan, an X user identified as @abhyn0w, who was riding behind the scooters. After documenting the harassment, he briefly confronted the youths. Realising they were being filmed, the trio fled the scene. Vasudevan later uploaded the video on X, prompting swift police attention.

Following the post, Bengaluru Police traced the scooter using its registration number. Two of the accused, both aged 19, were identified as Sheik Ayaan and Sheikh Roshan. Officers later located all three individuals, including the minor, and took them into custody for questioning.

Police confirmed that the minor has been sent to a juvenile home, while the other two accused were remanded to judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison. Further investigation into the harassment incident is ongoing.

The case has renewed focus on women's safety on Bengaluru roads, particularly during late hours, and highlighted the role of citizen intervention and social media in enabling swift law enforcement response.
