Bengaluru’s Traffic Fix: ORR Gridlock May Ease with Early Shifts and WFH Wednesdays? Bengaluru Police Think So
In a bid to tackle the city's notorious traffic congestion, especially along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Bengaluru Traffic Police have proposed a series of measures, including flexible working hours, early office start times, and mid-week Work From Home (WFH) options for IT companies.
According to a report by Bengaluru Mirror, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy said the peak traffic period falls between 9:00 am and 10:00 am, and urged companies to consider starting work by 7:30 am to ease the morning rush.

WFH Wednesdays and Shuttle Services
To further decongest mid-week traffic, tech firms have been encouraged to adopt WFH on Wednesdays. Additionally, companies have been advised to provide shuttle buses for employees and work towards improved connectivity between tech parks.
As part of a data-driven approach, traffic authorities plan to install cameras at strategic points to monitor vehicle movement over a three-day period.
Strict Action Against Illegal Parking
The department is also adopting a zero-tolerance policy on illegal parking, particularly near ORR junctions and inside tech park campuses. Vehicles parked in violation of the rules will be towed immediately, as per the new enforcement protocol.
To prevent unexpected traffic snarls, contingency plans for dealing with breakdowns of buses, tankers, and trucks are also being recommended.
Karthik Reddy said, "The meeting was constructive, with all agencies agreeing to collaborate and implement realistic traffic management solutions."
Often dubbed India's Silicon Valley, Bengaluru continues to struggle with severe traffic congestion caused by rapid urban expansion and a booming IT industry. The Outer Ring Road, home to several major tech parks, remains one of the city's most gridlocked corridors during peak hours.
