Bengaluru’s Second International Airport: Final Location Site Selection Likely by End of July
The Karnataka government is accelerating plans for a second international airport in Bengaluru. Discussions among state Congress leaders about the airport's location are intense. The government has finalised a proposal, which includes three shortlisted sites, and submitted it to the central airport authority. The new airport is likely to be situated in southern Bengaluru.
The airport authority is expected to conclude its site selection within 15 days. This decision comes amid significant competition among Congress leaders regarding the airport's location. Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara advocated for Tumakuru, while several legislators, including T B Jayachandra, pressured Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for Shiradi.

Key Discussions on Airport Location
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other ministers have pushed for Bidadi or Harohalli as potential sites. The state government has now sent a proposal with three finalised locations to the central government. Minister M B Patil mentioned that the airport authority is expected to make a swift decision on the site around Bengaluru.
Minister M B Patil will meet Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi next week on July 21 and 22 to discuss the project further. He stated that they would consider developments at Noida and Navi Mumbai airports before making a decision. The finalisation of the site during this meeting is eagerly anticipated.
There is considerable interest in which location will ultimately be chosen for Bengaluru's second international airport. The discussions with the Union Aviation Minister are crucial in determining this outcome.
Minister M B Patil emphasised that observing Noida and Navi Mumbai's new airports would guide their decision-making process. The state's proposal aims to ensure an efficient selection process for the new airport site.
The anticipation surrounding the final site choice reflects its importance to Bengaluru's infrastructure development. The government's efforts highlight their commitment to enhancing connectivity through this significant project.
