Bengaluru’s Raj Bhavan to Open for Public Tours After Vidhan Soudha Success

Bengaluru's Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor of Karnataka, is set to welcome visitors for the first time through guided tours. This follows the success of public tours at Vidhan Soudha in June, which led the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) to announce a similar initiative for the 19th-century Raj Bhavan.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has given his approval, and officials are currently finalizing visitor-friendly areas, tour routes, and schedules.

Historical Significance of Raj Bhavan

Raj Bhavan was constructed between 1840 and 1842 by Sir Mark Cubbon, originally known as "The Residency" and served as the residence for British commissioners in Bangalore. Later, it acted as a guest house for distinguished personalities, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India's first President, and Eleanor Roosevelt, the First Lady of the United States.

After independence, the building was renamed 'Raj Bhavan' and designated as the official residence of Karnataka's governors. Today, it stands as an emblem of colonial heritage and contemporary governance.
