Namma Metro Yellow Line Update: First Batch Of Driverless Train From China Arrives At Chennai
After several delays by the Chinese company, first six-coach of Bengaluru's first driverless train has finally arrived at Chennai Port after a long journey from China. This marks a crucial milestone for the Namma Metro Yellow Line (R.V. Road-Bommasandra) connecting Electronic City, paving the way for a more efficient and futuristic public transportation experience in Bengaluru.

The arrival of the train, which was originally scheduled for December 2023, was delayed due to challenges in implementing the Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) system. However, with the expertise of 21 Chinese technical experts from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), including loco-pilots, technicians, and engineers, the train successfully completed its journey.
The train will now be transported by road to Bengaluru's Hebbagodi depot by road on Feb 20, where it will undergo further testing and commissioning before being deployed on the Yellow Line. BMRCL officials are confident that the train will be operational before the initial deadline of April 2024.
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya took to X and wrote,''After receiving Yellow Line Master rake bodies at Titagarh last November for local production set up, we now have a prototype train arriving from CRRC for testing.
Have been following up with BMRCL MD about speeding up process and keeping public informed of all upcoming steps, including production plans at Titagarh.''
