Bengaluru–Mumbai Superfast Train Approved After 30 Years of Demand

The Railway Ministry has given the green light for a new superfast train service between Bengaluru and Mumbai. This move addresses a demand that has been unmet for nearly 30 years. The new service aims to cut travel time and offer a convenient alternative to air and road transport for commuters between these two major cities.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, "Very soon, we will be starting a superfast train between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Both cities are major economic hubs and capacity expansion at their stations has now made this possible." Currently, the Udyan Express is the sole direct train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, taking over 24 hours to complete the journey.

Demand for Improved Connectivity

BJP's Tejasvi Surya highlighted that this demand has been pending for three decades. He noted that despite both cities' growth, only one superfast train existed between them. Surya shared data showing that last year, over 26 lakh people travelled by air between the two cities. He believes the new service will make travel more affordable and convenient for many citizens.

Surya's office released a statement indicating that the announcement follows four years of persistent efforts by him. He raised the issue repeatedly in Parliament, Public Accounts Committee meetings, and discussions with senior officials of the Railways Ministry.

It will support daily commuters and business travellers while strengthening economic and social ties between Bengaluru and Mumbai.
