Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line Scare: Guard Falls on Tracks After 16-Hour Shift, Survives

A Bengaluru Metro security guard narrowly escaped a fatal accident after falling onto the tracks at Ragigudda station on the newly launched Yellow Line around 11:10 a.m. on Monday. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over passenger safety and staff working conditions at Namma Metro stations.

According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the 52-year-old guard was on duty at platform number 2 when he slipped and fell on the electrified tracks. Fortunately, a quick-thinking colleague on platform number 1 immediately activated the Emergency Trip Switch (ETS), cutting off power supply. A commuter also rushed in to pull the guard to safety.

An incoming train was halted, and metro services were briefly disrupted for about six minutes. The guard escaped without injuries and is safe, a BMRCL official confirmed.

Following the incident, the guard was relieved from duty. An internal inquiry has been launched after it was revealed that he had been working nearly 16 hours with only a short rest break before returning to duty. The station manager has also been questioned as part of the investigation.

In the wake of the incident, BMRCL has started strengthening safety measures. On August 20, new barricades were installed at RV Road interchange station to prevent accidental falls, making it the second station after Majestic to get safety railings.
