Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 Adds 2 New Lines: Check Routes, Distance, Budget, Completion Date

The Karnataka government on Thursday greenlit the construction of two additional routes for the Namma Metro as part of phase 3 expansion.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that traffic congestion remains a significant challenge for Bengaluru and highlighted the metro as a viable solution to tackle this issue.

"One of the major problems Bengaluru is facing is traffic. Metro is a suitable solution to address the city's traffic problem. Namma Metro's phases 2A and 2B will be completed in a year or two. The cabinet has approved phase 3 of Namma Metro. We have decided to take up two routes under phase 3 of Namma Metro," Krishna Byre Gowda said.

Metro 3rd Phase Route

The phase three of Namma Metro has two lines. The first line will stretch from Hebbal Flyover to JP Nagar, spanning a distance of 32.15 km. This route will traverse through Gorugunte Palya, Tumakuru Road, Magadi Road, Mysuru Road, before linking to JP Nagar.

The second line will extend from Hosahalli near Vijayanagara to Kadabagere, covering a distance of 12.5 km. In total, the phase three will cover a distance of 44.65 km.

After the Karnataka government's approval, BMRCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao said that it helps the authorities to kickstart pre-construction activities for Phase 3. Despite it being a formalization of previous approvals, the cabinet's nod empowers BMRCL to initiate essential groundwork. This includes vital tasks such as land acquisition, utility relocation, and tree enumeration to facilitate clearance. Having submitted a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the union government last year, this green light marks a crucial step forward in realizing the ambitious Phase 3 plans.
