Bengaluru Makes Cauvery Water Connection Mandatory for New Apartments—What Buyers Must Know
The Karnataka government has made it mandatory for all upcoming apartments in Bengaluru to have a Cauvery water connection before sale. Both builders and landowners must comply with this new rule to ensure buyers have access to a reliable water supply.
Why Is Cauvery Water Connection Mandatory?
Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar, chairman of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), has urged homebuyers to verify the Cauvery water connection before purchasing flats. He warned that builders cannot sell properties without disclosing this crucial information. The BWSSB is preparing to submit a proposal to the government for implementing strict regulations and penalties for non-compliance.

Buyers Beware: Verify Water Connection Before Purchase
Bengaluru's real estate sector has seen multiple complaints from apartment buyers. Many claim they were misled by builders and flat owners, who falsely promised a Cauvery water supply. Buyers reported paying extra fees for a water connection that was never provided.
To tackle this issue, the BWSSB is now easing norms to facilitate Cauvery water connections for apartments. "Strict action will be taken against those fraudulently charging for non-existent water connections," stated Dr. Manohar.
Builders to Face Penalties for Non-Compliance
The government's decision ensures fair access to Cauvery water across Bengaluru. Builders selling flats without a verified water connection will be held accountable and penalized under the new rule.
This move aims to protect homebuyers from being deceived while ensuring that all new apartments in Bengaluru are equipped with a Cauvery water connection.
Dr. Manohar also urged citizens to verify their water connection before finalizing a property purchase. Additionally, the BWSSB plans to expand its campaign against water misuse, imposing stricter fines to protect Bengaluru's water resources, especially during peak summer months.
