Bengaluru Horror: 24-Year-Old College Student Assaulted After Two Men Force Their Way Into Cab

A 24-year-old college student endured a terrifying ordeal in the early hours of Monday when two unidentified men attempted to assault her after forcing their way into her cab in east Bengaluru. The assailants fled when locals intervened.

According to her complaint, the victim, an undergraduate student residing in Kammanahalli, had booked a cab through an aggregator between 2 am and 3 am to bring a friend home from Whitefield.

As she got into the cab and shut the door, two men suddenly tried to enter the back seat where she was seated. Startled, she resisted, and the driver-who was unfamiliar with the men-tried to stop them.

Sensing danger, the student bolted from the vehicle and ran toward her home. One of the assailants chased her down, grabbed her from behind, and assaulted her. When she fought back, he struck her, knocked her to the ground, and attempted to strip her, according to the complaint.

Meanwhile, the cab driver got into a scuffle with the second attacker. Hearing the woman's cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the scene, prompting the men to flee.

She immediately contacted the emergency helpline 112, and a Hoysala patrol vehicle arrived at the location. Despite the trauma, she went ahead with her scheduled exam in the morning and filed a police complaint afterward.

Based on her statement, a case has been registered under BNS Sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman's modesty) and 75 (sexual harassment). The victim described the attackers as being in their late 20s or 30s. With no CCTV cameras in the immediate vicinity, authorities are reviewing footage from surrounding areas to track the suspects.

This incident echoes a similar attack in August 2023, when a 26-year-old software professional from Nagaland was assaulted near Lingarajpuram. Around 3:30 am, a machete-wielding youth stopped her office cab, attacked her, and stripped her when she tried to escape. She sought refuge in a nearby house, where the homeowner, who defended her, was seriously injured.

The 18-year-old perpetrator was arrested months later. The identity of the victim has been withheld in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines on cases of sexual assault.
