Bengaluru Flyover JP Nagar-Hebbal: 32.15 km Longest Elevated Corridor Planned
Bengaluru is getting a big upgrade with a new 32.15 km double-decker road and metro line connecting JP Nagar and Hebbal. This will be the longest flyover in the city and is designed to reduce traffic on the western side of the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
Additionally, there's an 8-km elevated road planned for Magadi Road, with a total cost for these projects estimated at ₹9,800 crore. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar recently visited key areas like Hebbal, BEL Road, Summanahalli, and Goraguntepalya. He mentioned that future metro expansions will include elevated roads to help lower land costs.

Officials have stated that the metro corridors planned under Phase III, spanning over 40 km, will also use a double-decker design. However, this has caused a slight delay in the tendering process for the metro construction, even after receiving approval from the central government last August.
"We are planning with a long-term vision of 30-40 years, and the costs will be shared equally by BBMP and Namma Metro," Shivakumar said.
There will also be a significant design change at Goraguntepalya for the metro line connecting JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura. Instead of creating an interchange at Peenya, officials are looking at building a new metro station near Goraguntepalya junction. This adjustment aims to cut construction costs and shorten the metro line by 300 meters. Travelators will connect the new station to Peenya and Goraguntepalya for easier access.
While this change might be a bit inconvenient for some metro users, officials believe it will greatly improve traffic flow at Goraguntepalya. The corridor is expected to allow smooth travel between Dr. Rajkumar Memorial and BEL Circle, removing traffic jams. Plans are in place to acquire land from the Defence Ministry and the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute to create a new surface road, making it easier for commuters.
