Bengaluru Dry Day Alert: Bars, Pubs, and Liquor Shops to Shut on THESE Days

Bengaluru will experience two consecutive dry days next week due to a liquor ban on August 15 for Independence Day and August 16 for Janmashtami. The prohibition will last 24 hours each day, affecting all bars, pubs, restaurants, wine stores, and liquor shops throughout the city.

Reasons Behind the Liquor Ban

The authorities have enforced this ban to ensure law and order during public gatherings and festive events. Residents are encouraged to plan their purchases in advance since no exceptions will be made during these days.

Independence Day on August 15 is a mandatory dry day nationwide. In Karnataka, Janmashtami on August 16 is also traditionally observed as a dry day. Although not a national rule, it is expected that restrictions will be enforced based on past practices.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations

Later in the month, Ganesh Chaturthi on August 27 might also be a dry day in Bengaluru. This festival honours Lord Ganesha and spans ten days with cultural programs, processions, and community gatherings across various neighbourhoods. It concludes with Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, featuring grand idol immersion ceremonies in designated water bodies.

The immersion day typically attracts large crowds as devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha amidst music, dance, and vibrant processions. Although only the first day of the festival is officially a dry day, additional restrictions may be imposed by the Excise Department during the immersion period.

Possible Additional Restrictions During Visarjan

A temporary ban around visarjan could be implemented to maintain law and order, manage traffic, and ensure safety during high footfall at immersion points. This measure aims to facilitate smooth proceedings during this significant cultural event.
