Bengaluru: Couple Killed, Two Injured as Ambulance Rams Motorbikes Near Richmond Circle

A late-night road accident in Bengaluru's Richmond Circle area turned fatal after an ambulance lost control and rammed into three motorcycles waiting at a red light. The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, left two people dead and two others critically injured.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Ismail (40) and his wife Sameen Banu, who were riding a scooter. Both died on the spot after suffering severe injuries. The other two victims sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses said the speeding ambulance struck the bikes with tremendous force, dragging one for nearly 50 metres before colliding with a police outpost. The impact left the vehicles mangled and scattered across the road.

Driver Detained, Case Registered

The ambulance driver, identified as Shankar, has been detained by Wilson Garden Traffic Police. A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving.

Anoop Shetty, DCP (Traffic, West Bengaluru), confirmed, "An FIR has been registered against the driver. The vehicle has been seized, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident."

Rising Road Safety Concerns

The tragedy has once again highlighted Bengaluru's growing road safety crisis. Just last month, a hit-and-run in Cottonpet claimed the life of a pedestrian, Anja Devi (45), sparking outrage among residents. Citizens are now urging authorities to enforce stricter traffic rules and curb reckless driving before more lives are lost.
