Bengaluru Cop Jumps In Front Of Bike, Grabs Thief And Gets Dragged 20 Metres, Stunt Caught On CCTV

A heroic police constable in Bengaluru, put his life on the line to arrest a notorious thief by leaping into the path of a speeding two-wheeler. The dramatic incident was captured on CCTV footage on Tuesday. The incident occurred at a crowded junction in Bengaluru's Sadashivanagar on August 6.

A retired army hawaldar-turned-police constable Dodda Lingayya, 50, who was wearing plain clothes, approached the speeding bike on a busy road and suddenly jumped in front of it. He took the help of traffic police assistant sub-inspector, Mayamma, to nab the rider S Manjesha alias 420 Manja alias Hotte Manja, alias Choultry Manja, 40.

It must be noted Dodda Lingaiah, a police constable with the crime unit at Koratagere police station in Tumakuru district, had been actively searching for Manjesha, a resident of Hesaraghatta who is wanted in over 40 criminal cases throughout Karnataka.

Startled by the constable's sudden move, Manjesh momentarily stopped the bike, but then accelerated, dragging Constable Lingayya along for about 20 meters as he clung to the thief's collar. Although the collar eventually slipped from his grasp, the determined constable refused to give up, grabbing onto Manjesh's leg as he continued to ride.

Two traffic officers noticed the struggle and rushed to assist. Despite Manjesh overpowering one of them, he was eventually subdued with the help of several bystanders. Police revealed that Manjesh had fled to Bengaluru from Tumakuru district and had been under their surveillance for some time.
