Bengaluru Building Collapse: Police Hunt For Owners As FIR Filed, 5 Dead
Police are intensively searching for Muniraju Reddy and his son Mohan, the proprietors of a building in Bengaluru's Babusalapya that tragically collapsed. This incident, which occurred during a bout of heavy rainfall, resulted in the loss of five lives and left five others injured. The collapse not only raised concerns about construction safety standards but also led to the filing of an FIR by Mohammed Arshad, a relative of Harman, one of the individuals who perished in the disaster.

In the wake of the catastrophe, the Reddys, hailing from Andhra Pradesh and residing in Malleshwaram, have eluded law enforcement agencies. Their disappearance has prompted a robust response from the police, who have registered a case under various legal provisions, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with regulations from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. This legal action underscores the severity of the negligence attributed to the building's owners and the construction team involved.
The collapse of the under-construction structure has brought to light the plight of the workers and the hazardous conditions under which they labor. Among the deceased were individuals from Bihar named Harman (26), Tripal (35), Mohammed Sahil (19), and others, such as Sathya Raju (25) and Shankar. The incident has cast a spotlight on the urgent need for stricter adherence to building codes and regulations, especially in periods of adverse weather conditions.
D Devaraju, the deputy commissioner of police (East), has been at the forefront of the investigation, providing updates on the rescue operations. According to his statements, 18 laborers have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to locate three more feared to be trapped beneath the rubble. This painstaking search operation underscores the challenges faced by rescue teams, especially in densely populated urban areas where construction sites are often cramped and hazardous.
