Bengaluru Bandh On September 26: Are Liquor or Alcohol Shops Closed?
Bengaluru Bandh: In the midst of widespread protests throughout Karnataka opposing the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu, two bandh calls have been scheduled for this week. The first is set to occur in Bengaluru tomorrow i.e September 26, while the second will result in a statewide shutdown on Friday.

The announcement for the statewide Karnataka shutdown on September 29 was made by the 'Kannada Okkuta' group, spearheaded by prominent Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj. This decision follows the call for a shutdown in Bengaluru on Tuesday, initiated by the 'Karnataka Jala Samrakshana Samiti.
The Bengaluru bandh on September 26, 2023, is being called by pro-farmer and pro-Kannada organizations to protest the Karnataka government's decision to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. The protest march will begin at 11 am at Town Hall and end at Freedom Park.
However, there is uncertainty regarding which services will continue operating and which will be suspended on Tuesday in Bengaluru due to a split in support for the bandh.
Are liquor shops open or closed during the Bengaluru bandh on September 26, 2023?
Liquor shops are unlikely to be closed during the Bengaluru bandh on September 26, 2023.
Closed:
- Schools and colleges.
- Most offices, with employees working from home (Walmart and Google issued notices to their employees to stay home).
- State buses will not ply in Bengaluru.
Open:
- Hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru (Hotel Owners' Association withdrew their support).
- Namma Metro services will operate as usual.
- Ola Uber Drivers and Owners Association withdrew their support for Tuesday's bandh and will participate in Friday's statewide bandh.
State-run Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will take a decision after assessing the law and order situation.
Meanwhile, it is important that commuters be informed through reliable news sources for any updates regarding the bandh situation.
The Cauvery river is a major source of water for both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and there has been a long-standing dispute between the two states over water sharing.
