Beer Price Hike In Karnataka Postponed This Winter Amid 20% Sales Drop
The Karnataka government has decided to freeze beer price hikes until January to avoid potential revenue losses. This decision comes as beer sales typically drop during winter, raising concerns about a decline in revenue collection. The initiative seeks to stabilize state revenue during the winter months.
Beer sales tend to see a significant decrease every winter as consumers shift to warmer beverages. Excise department officials feared that a price hike during this period could exacerbate the sales slump, worsening the revenue shortfall.

Although the excise department had already proposed a price increase and issued a draft for price revision, the government has decided to hold off on any hikes after weighing the seasonal impact.
With extreme cold expected in Karnataka this winter, beer sales are forecasted to drop by 10-20%, putting excise revenue at risk. The department has struggled to meet its financial targets, with just half of the ₹36,000 crore revenue target achieved in the first half of the fiscal year.
For now, beer enthusiasts in the state can relax as the government has decided to maintain the current prices until the end of winter.
