BBMP’s Ban on Meat Sales Has Little Effect On Bengaluru’s Aero India 2025

The city is abuzz with preparations for Aero India 2025, set to take place at Yelahanka from February 10 to 14. This biennial international air show has residents eagerly awaiting vibrant aerial displays from fighter jets and aircraft, marking one of Bengaluru's most anticipated events.

However, concerns have surfaced over meat sales near Yelahanka, as they attract birds, potentially endangering aircraft operations. The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has prohibited the sale of meat within a 13-kilometre radius of the Air Force Station for 26 days, citing safety under the BBMP Act 2020 and Aircraft Rules 1937. Violators risk legal action.

BBMP s Ban on Meat Sales

Despite the ban, many traders and restaurants continue operating as usual. Reports suggest thriving mutton and chicken sales in Bagalur, raising doubts about enforcement.

To ensure smooth operations and public safety, BBMP has banned crane usage on tall buildings in the area. Beautification efforts are also underway, including freshly painted road dividers, new iron grills for traffic management, and streamlined public movement around Yelahanka's main road, which is expected to see significant crowds.

Aircraft have already begun arriving at the Yelahanka Air Base, with the Surya Kiran team preparing their iconic aerial formations. Several warplanes and helicopters, including international fighter jets, are set to showcase India's military might and aviation advancements.

Since its inception in 1996, Aero India has grown into a premier event supported by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Air Force (IAF), and the Department of Space. It highlights India's air power, cutting-edge military technology, and the valor of domestic and international forces, while offering the public a closer look at the country's growing defense capabilities.

As the countdown continues, Bengaluru readies itself for a spectacular showcase of aerial brilliance and military prowess.
