Bangalore University Deferred MBA Exam Due To Public Holiday Honouring Former PM Manmohan Singh

Bangalore University (BU) has announced the rescheduling of its second-semester MBA examination, originally planned for 27 December. The decision follows the Karnataka state government's declaration of a public holiday in light of the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday night.

As reported by the Times of India, the university issued the announcement early Friday morning, confirming the exam's postponement. A revised date for the examination will be communicated to students soon.

A notification released by BU's Registrar (Evaluation), Srinivas C, stated, "In view of the state government's declaration of a public holiday in honour of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the MBA (2nd semester) exam scheduled for today (27-12-2024) has been postponed. A revised exam date will be announced shortly," according to the report.

Manmohan Singh, India's former Prime Minister renowned for his economic reforms that transformed the nation into a global powerhouse, passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday.

Singh was rushed to a hospital in New Delhi after losing consciousness at his residence on Thursday evening. However, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 pm local time, according to a statement from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Singh, who served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, is credited with overseeing a period of economic growth during his first term, although his second term was overshadowed by a slowdown in the economy.

Dr Manmohan Singh's Academic Achievements and Contributions

Born in 1932 in the small village of Gah, now in Pakistan, Singh dedicated his life to studying economics with the aim of alleviating poverty in India. Remarkably, he had never held elected office before becoming the nation's leader.

He earned scholarships to Cambridge University, where he graduated with a first in economics, and Oxford University, where he completed his PhD.

Throughout his career, Singh held senior civil service positions, served as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and worked with international organisations, including the United Nations.

In 1991, during a period of severe financial crisis, then-Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao appointed Singh as Finance Minister. Singh's economic reforms played a pivotal role in steering India out of the crisis and setting the foundation for its modern economic growth.
