Palace Ground still in legal battles
Bangalore, Dec 4: Palace Grounds in the heart of Bangalore, has been in controversy since a very long time. The government has been debating about the ground division between the royal family and the matters have been in court.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday told the Assembly that a case related to unauthorised constructions on the Palace Grounds in Bangalore is pending in the Supreme Court.

The legal heirs have moved the court against this order

Siddaramaiah said that the government notified the Bangalore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, 1996 on November 21, 1996 and the property is vested in the State government. The legal heirs have questioned the Act before the Supreme Court and "the matter is still pending", he said.

As per the interim orders of the Supreme Court in 1998 and 2001, the State government has accorded permission for conducting programmes on the Palace Grounds, he said.

The Supreme Court has, in 1997, ordered status quo in the case.

The Tahsildar of Bangalore North Taluk has ordered demolition of unauthorised structures that have come up on the Palace Grounds after 1997. The legal heirs have moved the court against this order, he said.

"The Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban district has conducted spot inspection and submitted a report to the Supreme Court regarding the unauthorised structures there. The case is pending in the Supreme Court," the Chief Minister said.
