Bangalore ATM attack: No arrest even after 48 hours (Pics)
Bangalore, Nov 19: The police are yet to arrest the culprit who brutally assaulted a woman bank manager inside an ATM kiosk here in broad daylight on Tuesday. What is even more surprising is that the police have not been able to crack the case despite the CCTV cameras installed in the kiosk filming the horrible assault.
Eight police teams are hunting for the assailant in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The mobile phone of the victim which the attacker had stolen from her was recovered in Andhra Pradesh but there was no trace of the man yet.
Meanwhile, governments in various states across India, including Delhi, have cracked down on unsafe ATMs, asking the concerned banks to ensure full safety at the units. On Wednesday, the Karnataka government asked the banks to either ensure safety at the ATMs or close them down. State home minister KJ George had a high-level meeting on the matter and said over 600 of the 2,580 ATMs in Bangalore city have no security arrangements.
"We want them to deploy security guards immediately or close down the things until suitable arrangements have been made.....that's why the Police Commissioner (Raghavendra Auradkar) will take appropriate action," he told reporters.
The woman who was brutally hit with a sharp weapon, was left paralysed on her right side.
