Atul Suicide Case: Bengaluru Techie Travelled Between Jaunpur 40 Times In 3 Years
In Bengaluru, a tragic incident unfolded as Subhash Atul, a 34-year-old automobile company executive, was found deceased in his apartment. Deeply affected by ongoing domestic strife, including allegations of false police complaints made by his wife and her family, Atul decided to end his life. Before his untimely death, he penned a detailed 24-page note, shedding light on the torment he faced, which pushed him to the brink. This note, along with a recorded video, highlights his struggle against what he perceived as manipulation of the legal system by his in-laws, and has sparked widespread outrage.
During a heartfelt interaction with the media, Atul's grieving parents, Pawan Modi and Anju Devi Modi, expressed their profound disillusionment with the judicial process. They recounted Atul's harrowing journey of seeking justice, which saw him shuttling between courts in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru, only to find himself ensnared in an unending cycle of legal battles instigated by his wife. The situation grew so dire that, in a desperate plea for help emailed to his brother, Atul disclosed his intention to take his own life, culminating in his tragic demise in the early hours of a Monday. The distressing news of his son's death compelled Pawan to make the somber trip to Bengaluru to claim his son's body.

Atul’s family vehemently asserts the veracity of the allegations he made against his wife, her mother, and her family. They narrate instances of cruelty and mistreatment, not just towards Atul but also towards Anju Devi Modi, who had once travelled to Bengaluru to care for her pregnant daughter-in-law, only to face ill-treatment. This saga of harassment and legal wrangling has not only taken a toll on their mental health but also led to a decline in their physical well-being, with Anju Devi Modi being diagnosed with diabetes amidst the turmoil.
Legal Action and Family Denial
In the wake of Atul's death, his younger brother, Bikas Kumar, took immediate legal action by filing a complaint against Atul's wife, Nikita Singhania, and her relatives, alleging their direct involvement in Atul's decision to end his life. This has prompted the Marathahalli police to register a case of abetment to suicide against them. Bikas’s grievances highlight a broader issue regarding the legal protection for men against false accusations, emphasizing the need for systemic changes to prevent further tragedies.
Contrary to the accusations, Nikita’s family has denied any responsibility for Atul's demise. Her uncle, Sushil Singhania, emphasized their absence at the time of the incident and expressed faith in the judiciary for a fair judgment. He also mentioned that the family had not been in contact with Atul for the past three years, distancing themselves from the allegations.
Public Outcry and Demand for Justice
The heart-wrenching story of Subhash Atul has resonated widely, sparking a public outcry for justice on social media platforms. Hashtags like #JusticeForAtulSubhash and #Mentoo have been trending, with netizens expressing their disdain for the circumstances leading to his death and calling for accountability. This digital movement has seen a flood of support, with many sharing their own stories of suffering and calling for change in how such cases are treated legally and socially.
Amidst the clamor for justice, Atul’s final message was a poignant reminder of the ordeal he endured, as he apologized to his parents for not being there in their old age. His desperate request that his harassers be brought to justice before his last rites are performed underscores the depth of his despair and the urgency for societal and legal reforms.
