At 23.8°C, Bengaluru Records Chilly Temperature On July 15th, Coldest Day Of 2024

In a remarkable weather turn around, Bengaluru has experienced its coldest day of the year on Friday, with the city's Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory recording a maximum temperature of just 23.8°C. This marks the 11th lowest maximum temperature ever recorded for the month of July in the city's history.

This significant drop in temperature contrasts sharply with the sweltering heat experienced earlier in the year. On April 28th, Bengaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5°C, which was the 3rd highest ever recorded in the city's history. This temperature spike was part of a broader trend, as Bengaluru also saw its 2nd highest maximum temperatures for the months of April and May on April 28th and May 1st, respectively.

The drastic change in weather can be attributed to the active monsoon conditions that have set in over the region. The monsoon's arrival has brought cooler temperatures and relief from the scorching heat, contributing to the record low temperature today.

HEAVY RAINS TO LASH KARNATAKA

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across South Interior and Coastal Karnataka over the next five days. Bengaluru is expected to experience light to moderate showers throughout the week.

Multiple landslides have blocked Karnataka's National Highway 75, connecting Bengaluru to Mangaluru, leaving several vehicles stranded.

Shiradi Ghat Traffic Ban Lifted with Restrictions

The district administration has lifted the traffic ban at Shiradi Ghat in Sakaleshpur taluk of Hassan district, allowing vehicles to pass under new restricted rules. The ban was initially imposed yesterday morning following a hill collapse near Doddapalu.

The temporary suspension has been revoked, and traffic will now be permitted from 6 am to 6 pm starting tomorrow (Saturday). The easing of restrictions comes as a relief for those traveling between Mangalore and Bangalore, as the complete traffic ban had caused significant disruptions.

Hundreds of vehicles had been stranded since last night due to the ban, with truck and lorry drivers facing hardships without access to food, snacks, drinking water, or toilets. The traffic congestion also affected Charmadi Ghat in Chikkamagaluru district and Sampaje Marg in Kodagu district, exacerbated by heavy rains across all routes. The situation on the Shiradi Ghat route remains challenging as vehicles navigate the newly imposed restrictions.
