As Temperatures Plunge, Bengaluru Sees Alarming Rise In Flu And Respiratory Infections
With temperatures dipping sharply, Bengaluru hospitals are grappling with a significant rise in flu, respiratory infections, and influenza cases. Outpatient departments (OPDs) across the city are overwhelmed, attending to over 50 patients daily, with many requiring hospital admissions.
Medical experts describe this as the worst seasonal outbreak since the pandemic, urging citizens to adopt Covid-era preventive measures to curb the spread of infections.

"We are witnessing a surge in patients suffering from cold, cough, and fever," said a staff member from a local clinic while speaking to OneIndia.
Rise in Viral Infections
Doctors have noted a marked increase in flu cases and other respiratory infections, attributing the surge to the cold weather, which facilitates viral transmission. The symptoms being reported include persistent cough, fever, wheezing, and fatigue, with some cases progressing to severe respiratory complications.
Health professionals emphasize the need to revisit pandemic habits such as wearing masks in crowded areas, practising good hand hygiene, and seeking timely medical attention.
"This season has been particularly challenging, and we urge people to take proactive steps to safeguard their health," added the clinic staff.
Key Measures to Stay Healthy
- Wear masks in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces.
- Maintain hand hygiene and avoid close contact with sick individuals.
- Get flu vaccinations to reduce the risk of severe illness.
- Stay home and rest if unwell to prevent the spread of infections.
As hospitals brace for more cases in the coming weeks, citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and prioritize preventive care to navigate this challenging flu season.
