Are Recent Price Hike In Karnataka Burdening The Common Man Pockets?
The Congress government in Karnataka, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, had promised a plethora of guarantee schemes during the Assembly Elections to woo voters. However, the recent price hike across various sectors are now turning out to be a burden.
The government's initiatives, including Gruha Lakshmi, Youth Fund, Shakti Yojana, Anna Bhagya, and Gruha Jyothi, were intended to provide relief to the people. However, the reality is starkly different.

Escalating prices across various sectors are putting a significant financial strain on the common man of Karnataka. The recent and upcoming price hikes in petrol, diesel, milk, vegetables, and other essential items are exacerbating the cost of living.
Petrol and diesel prices have been recently increased by ₹3 and ₹3.50 respectively. This has resulted in a monthly increase of ₹100 for a typical two-wheeler consuming 1 liter daily. The current fuel prices stand at ₹102.86 per liter for petrol and ₹88.94 per liter for diesel.
The price of milk has increased from ₹3 to ₹2 per liter, adding a monthly burden of average ₹1500 for a family consuming 30 liters. It should be noted that currently, the 500 ml toned milk packet of Nandini costs Rs 24.
Vegetable prices have also skyrocketed, with an estimated burden of ₹500 per person per month.
Grocery items such as rice and pulses have witnessed a price hike. Additionally, beer prices have increased by 10%.
Bus fares are also expected to rise soon, which may come as a shock to those who had been benefiting from free travel under Shakti Yojana. Cauvery water rates are set to increase by 40% for both domestic and commercial users. Medical fees in government hospitals and medical colleges will see a 10-15% increase.
Auto fares are also expected to rise by 25%. Considering all these factors, the estimated financial burden per family per month would be significantly higher than initially anticipated.
The people of Karnataka are left wondering if these guarantee schemes were worth the financial strain they are now facing. The government's promise of relief seems to have turned into a burden, leaving many struggling to make ends meet.
