Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will have breakfast with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on December 2 to discuss government coordination, following a previous meeting on November 29, initiated to address leadership issues. This follows the Congress government having crossed the halfway point of its five-year term on November 20, amid continued speculation.

The two senior leaders, whose equation has been under intense scrutiny due to a widening leadership rift, are expected to hold another round of discussions aimed at resetting coordination in the government.

Fresh Meeting After Saturday's Attempt to Ease Strain

Shivakumar confirmed on Monday that he had invited Siddaramaiah for breakfast, framing it as an effort to reinforce teamwork within the Congress government. He noted that both leaders were committed to delivering the promises made to the state.

Earlier in the day, Siddaramaiah said he had not yet received a formal invitation but would attend once it arrived. Shivakumar insisted that the matter was purely between him and the Chief Minister, adding that they were functioning like brothers.

"Me and the CM continue to work together as a team. I have invited the Hon'ble CM for breakfast tomorrow to discuss and strengthen our collective efforts to deliver on our promises to Karnataka," he wrote on X.

High Command Steps In as Leadership Debate Grows

Saturday's meeting at the Chief Minister's residence, called at the direction of the central leadership, was seen as the first major attempt to calm the turbulence over the leadership issue. After that interaction, both leaders publicly stated that there would be no confusion going forward, and reaffirmed that the high command's word would be final.

According to officials, Siddaramaiah will go ahead with the breakfast visit on Tuesday. The development is being viewed as a signal that the high command wants to keep the leadership issue on hold, particularly with the Belagavi legislature session beginning December 8.

Shivakumar Rejects Talk of Factions

Shivakumar pushed back strongly against talk of internal groups. He said, "We met under your pressure on November 29. There was no need for it." He blamed the media for creating narratives of internal divides.

"You are creating groups, DK group, Siddaramaiah group and others," he said, asserting that he himself is not part of any faction. He added, "I have 140 people with me."

Meanwhile, his brother and former MP D K Suresh flew into Bengaluru after a visit to Delhi, reportedly to meet senior party leaders. Suresh declined to reveal details, calling it a personal trip. He added that everything was functioning smoothly.

"Breakfast meetings are taking place. Tomorrow there is also a breakfast meeting. So everything will come to a stage," he said.

He noted that the high command would decide when the time was right and that everyone would have to wait. When asked whether Shivakumar was now set to become Chief Minister, he replied, "Let's wait and see."

Tussle Intensifies as Government Reaches Midterm

The debate over leadership in Karnataka has grown sharper ever since the Congress government crossed the halfway point of its five year term on November 20. Speculation about a possible change in the top post has remained persistent, despite repeated assurances from both leaders that there is no discord.
