AI Cameras On Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway Capture 74,915 Violations In A Month

The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has been making headlines since its opening, primarily due to several road accidents and traffic rule violations. To combat this, innovative technology AI cameras have been installed. But how many rule violations have been registered in the last 28 days? Here are the details:

More than 100 traffic violations are recorded every hour on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. In the last 28 days, a total of 74,915 traffic violations have been reported. The 22 cameras installed along the 118 km stretch have captured these violations.

Traffic Violation Details:

  • Seat Belt Violations: 57,057 cases of drivers and co-passengers not wearing seat belts.
  • Speeding: 10,945 cases.
  • Lane Violations: 6,046 cases.
  • Using Mobile Phones: 494 cases.

To curb these violations and reduce accidents on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, the police have installed AI-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at six locations in each direction. Also, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed video cameras at five other locations in each direction and set a speed limit of 100 km/h. These high-resolution cameras capture scenes of traffic violations.

Despite the presence of these cameras, people continue to break the rules and exceed speed limits, leading to accidents.

Additional Director General of Police, Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar, noted that more than 74,000 offenses have been registered in just 28 days, highlighting the public's disregard for road safety.

High instances of seat belt violations, speeding, and lane violations were reported. Heavy goods vehicles, including KSRTC and private buses, are also frequently violating traffic rules. Notices will be issued to all motorists who have violated the rules.

Notifications will be sent to the phones of all traffic violators, making them aware of their offenses. Fines will be deducted immediately from their FastTag accounts when violators' vehicles exit at tolls. "This mechanism can reduce traffic violations on highways," Kumar stated.
