African Nationals Attack Bengaluru CCB Officers During Drug Bust

A group of African nationals allegedly attacked officers from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and local police in Mavallipura, near Rajanukunte on the outskirts of Bengaluru, on the night of April 18. The incident occurred as the officers were attempting to arrest one of the individuals for drug peddling.

During the altercation, four police personnel sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru. The African individuals involved in the assault are currently at large, and the Rajanukunte police have registered a case in this regard.

Bengaluru CCB Officers Attacked

The CCB's anti-narcotics team had previously arrested an African individual in Bagalagunte on April 6, seizing 4 kg of MDMA crystals worth ₹4 crore from his residence. The accused was reportedly procuring MDMA crystals from Africa, importing them to Bengaluru, and selling them to his contacts in the city for ₹8,000 - ₹10,000. On April 18, a team of four CCB officials, led by Investigation Officer Subramanya Swamy, went to Mavallipura to apprehend an associate of the previously arrested individual.

According to Mallikarjun Baladandi, SP of Bengaluru Rural district, the police team located the suspect as he was returning home from a nearby restaurant. Upon entering the suspect's rented accommodation in Mavallipura, they encountered another individual, and a scuffle ensued, during which the police team was attacked.

The situation escalated when one of the Africans sent a voice note on WhatsApp, attracting around 10 more individuals to the scene. The police were outnumbered and faced with stone-throwing attacks. Despite the arrival of a Hoysala vehicle, even they were targeted with stones. However, they managed to rescue the CCB team before leaving the area.

The Africans involved in the assault fled the village as the police teams withdrew. Baladandi stated that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the individuals responsible. The rented house where the incident occurred was reportedly leased to two Africans three months ago by a person from Bihar without verifying their documents.
