Aero India 2025: Bengaluru Bans Meat Sales Near Yelahanka Air Force Station

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has imposed a ban on the sale and serving of meat within a 13-kilometer radius of Yelahanka Air Force Station from January 23 to February 17. The measure is part of preparations for Aero India 2025, Asia's largest airshow, scheduled in Bengaluru from February 10 to February 14.

In its official directive, the BBMP stated, "Aero India 2025 is scheduled to be held at the Yelahanka Air Force Station from February 10 to February 14. Consequently, all meat, chicken, and fish shops, as well as non-vegetarian hotels and restaurants within a 13-kilometer radius of the Air Force Station, must cease operations and the sale of non-vegetarian dishes during this period."

The civic body emphasized strict enforcement, warning, "Any violation will attract punishment under the BBMP Act 2020 and Rule 91 of the Indian Aircraft Rules 1937."

Aero India 2025

Organised by the Defense Ministry's Department of Defense Production, Aero India 2025 is a five-day extravaganza featuring breathtaking aerial displays by fighter jets and helicopters. The initial three days are dedicated to business visitors, while the final two days are open to the public.

Traffic and Flight Disruptions

To ensure smooth operations during the event, Bengaluru authorities have issued traffic advisories. Travelers to Kempegowda International Airport are advised to use alternative routes like the Hennur-Bagalur Road to avoid congestion. Additionally, temporary airspace closures during the event might cause flight delays or cancellations, with airlines expected to notify passengers of any changes.

Why Is the Meat Ban Enforced?

The prohibition on meat sales near air force stations during air shows, such as Aero India 2025, is aimed at preventing bird strikes. Discarded meat and food waste attract scavenger birds, which pose significant risks to aircraft. Bird activity near airfields can disrupt complex aerial maneuvers, endangering pilots, aircraft, and spectators.
