36-Year-Old Bengaluru Man Dies by Suicide After Facing Social Media Humiliation Over WhatsApp Post
In a tragic incident, a 36-year-old man, Vinay Somaiah from Somwarpet's Gonimaruru village, died by suicide in Bengaluru after allegedly facing continuous humiliation on social media. He was one of the administrators of a WhatsApp group where a controversial post was shared, leading to legal action against him and others.

Case Background
Vinay was an admin of a WhatsApp group named "Kodagu Problems." In January, a post featuring an image of a poorly maintained toilet on Madikeri's Moornadu Road along with a picture of Congress leader A S Ponnanna. Notably, Ponnanna has also serves as the Legal Advisor to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This post sparked outrage, prompting Congress leaders to file a police complaint.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the individual who shared the post and two group admins, including Vinay. Five days ago, the police filed charges, and the accused secured anticipatory bail.
Harassment and Public Shaming
Despite securing bail, Vinay allegedly continued to face severe online harassment. His photos were widely circulated in various social media groups, accompanied by derogatory remarks, leading to immense social pressure. Reports suggest that this public humiliation caused him mental distress and pushed him into isolation from friends and family.
Final Message and Suicide
On the morning of his death, Vinay posted a final message in the WhatsApp group, expressing his pain. He wrote that he wanted to ensure peace in Kodagu and prevent false cases from being filed against innocent people. He also criticized the practice of public defamation and social media harassment.
Shortly after, Vinay was found dead in his residence in Bengaluru. In his suicide note, he reportedly named those responsible for his distress and urged authorities to take legal action against them. He also expressed hope that no one else in Kodagu would suffer the same fate.
Authorities have taken note of Vinay's allegations and are investigating the circumstances that led to his death. The incident has sparked a debate about cyber harassment and legal responsibility in social media cases.
