31-Meter Composite Girder Installed In Bengaluru's Namma Metro Phase 2A

Afcons Infrastructure Limited, a leading construction company in India, has completed the erection of a 31-meter composite girder for the Bengaluru Namma Metro Phase 2A Central Silk Board to K R Puram (Outer Ring Road route). The girder installation took place at HSR Layout Outer Ring Road in Bengaluru on October 23, 2023.

Composite girders are a type of bridge girder that is made up of two different materials, typically steel and concrete. The steel provides strength and stiffness, while the concrete provides durability and reduces the overall weight of the girder.

The erection of the girder was a complex operation that involved the use of a crane and other specialized equipment. The girder was lifted into place and carefully positioned on the piers that will support it. The girder will now be connected to the other girders on the bridge to form the deck.

The Bengaluru Namma Metro Project Phase 2A is a major infrastructure project that will add 72.1 kilometers of new lines to the Bengaluru Metro network. The project is being executed by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) at a cost of over Rs. 56,000 crores.

In the expansive Phase II A and B of the Namma Metro project, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is actively engaged in constructing the 55-kilometer Blue Line, spanning from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) through KR Pura, Nagawara, and Hebbal. Initiated in stages, the initial phase focused on the Silk Board-KR line, while the subsequent stages addressed the KR Pura to KIA stretch.

The completion target for the KR Puram-Kempegowda International Airport extension is set for June 2026. Simultaneously, the Central Silk Board-KR Puram segment, specifically the Outer Ring Road route, is also slated for completion around the same timeframe.

The project is expected to be completed by 2026 and will benefit millions of commuters in Bengaluru. The project will help to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the city and improve the quality of life for its residents.
