Incident Occurred During Office Hours
According to police officials, the fall happened within the office premises during regular working hours. However, the exact reason behind the incident remains unclear. No suicide note was found at the scene, and investigators are examining both personal and workplace-related factors as part of the probe.
Preliminary findings indicate that the company canteen is located on the fifth floor of the building. On the day of the incident, Anantha was reportedly seen speaking on a mobile phone near the canteen before walking towards the terrace area shortly before the fatal fall.
Taken to Hospital, Declared Dead
After the incident, colleagues and staff immediately rushed Anantha to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors examined him on arrival but declared him dead, police said.
Investigators are currently recording statements from coworkers and reviewing technical evidence, including CCTV footage, to establish a clearer sequence of events.
Biocon Expresses Condolences
Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw expressed shock over the incident and conveyed condolences to Anantha's family. In a subsequent statement, the company said it is cooperating with the investigation but cannot share further details at this stage.
"Since the matter is being examined by law enforcement authorities, the company is not in a position to provide additional information at this time," The Times of India quoted Biocon as saying.
Another Bengaluru Workplace Tragedy a Day Earlier
The Biocon employee's death followed another fatal incident in Bengaluru a day earlier. On December 23, a 23-year-old senior analyst with Capgemini died after a gas explosion at a paying guest accommodation in Kundalahalli.
The blast occurred on the ground floor of a seven-storey building housing 43 rooms. Police said smoke was first noticed in the building, prompting occupants to come down from the terrace. The explosion occurred soon after, fatally injuring the Capgemini employee, identified as Aravind, a native of Ballari.
Three others were injured in the blast and are receiving treatment.
Police have clarified that the two incidents are unrelated and are being investigated separately. Forensic checks and eyewitness accounts are being examined in both cases.
Officials said more information will be shared once investigations progress, as families, colleagues, and employers await clarity on the circumstances surrounding the tragedies.
