23-Year-Old Woman And 9-Month-Old Baby Electrocuted Due To Exposed Wire, BESCOM Blamed
A tragic incident occurred in Bengaluru when a 23-year-old woman named Soundarya and her nine-month-old baby were electrocuted as she inadvertently stepped on a live electric wire lying on the pavement. The devastating event unfolded around 6 am on a Sunday shortly after Soundarya and her daughter had returned from Tamil Nadu.
The police said that the live wire, belonging to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM), was negligently left on the roadside in Bengaluru's Whitefield area. Consequently, a case has been filed against the service provider in connection with the incident. DCP Whitefield stated, "An investigation is underway, and we are interrogating the relevant BESCOM officials and staff."

Tragically, the live electric wire went unnoticed in the darkness, leading to the immediate and tragic demise of both the mother and her child.
This unfortunate incident is not the first of its kind in Bengaluru. In a similar incident in September of the previous year, a girl lost her life due to electrocution after slipping on a waterlogged road during heavy rainfall. Her family had filed a complaint against BESCOM following the incident.
Earlier in April 2022, a 22-year-old man being electrocuted after coming into contact with a cable wire while walking along the pavement near a park with his brother in Bengaluru. These incidents underscore the critical need for enhanced safety measures and vigilance to prevent such tragic occurrences.
