18-Ton High-Tech Garbage Trucks Set To Replace Existing Fleet After Tragic Accident In Bengaluru
In the aftermath of a tragic accident on Sunday night, which claimed two lives involving a BBMP garbage truck, the civic body has announced plans to replace its existing fleet with advanced, high-tech compactors. The new vehicles aim to reduce traffic congestion and accidents caused by the current trucks.
The new capsule trucks will have a significantly increased capacity of 18 tons, three times that of the current trucks, which can hold around 6-7 tons of garbage. This increased capacity will enable a single truck to serve 2-3 wards, reducing the number of trucks on the road and facilitating faster garbage collection.

The new trucks will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including high-resolution CCTV cameras, speed governors, and GPS tracking systems. These features will enable real-time monitoring and ensure that the trucks operate efficiently. The BBMP plans to procure these advanced vehicles through a tender process.
According to Palike chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath, "We are planning to purchase these advanced trucks through a tender process. The new trucks will be equipped with the latest technology, including CCTV cameras, speed governors, and GPS. This will help in monitoring the trucks and ensuring that they are operating efficiently." The move is expected to improve waste management in the city and reduce traffic congestion caused by the current fleet of garbage trucks.
