13 Bengaluru Trekkers Return Home, Haunted By Memories Of Deadly Uttarakhand Trip
Thirteen trekkers from Bengaluru, who survived a harrowing ordeal in the Uttarkashi region of Uttarakhand, returned to Bengaluru on Thursday night, reunited with their family members. However, the group was still reeling from the shock of losing nine of their friends and companions, who perished due to adverse weather conditions during the trek.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who was coordinating with the rescue operations, also returned to Bengaluru. The survivors are still grappling with the trauma of their near-death experiences at high altitude.

The remains of the nine deceased trekkers are yet to be repatriated to Bengaluru. Initially, the state government planned to airlift the bodies using a chartered flight, but due to unforeseen circumstances, this plan was scrapped. Instead, the bodies will be transported to Delhi airport by road and are expected to arrive today.
In an update on social media, Krishna Byre Gowda informed that the bodies will be transported from Delhi to Bengaluru by flights starting at 5:30 am. The government has arranged for officials to receive the bodies at the airport and transport them to the homes of the deceased persons.
The ill-fated trek began on May 27, when a team of 22 trekkers from Karnataka and one from Maharashtra embarked on a 35-kilometer trek in the Uttarkashi region. The group was accompanied by three local guides from Himalayan View Trekking Agency. Unfortunately, the weather conditions turned ugly on their way back to the base camp, leaving them stranded on the mountain.
